Dear Artist,
Artists are invited to submit an application to have their work juried for exhibition in the Kanata Civic Art Gallery. The Gallery is located in the Mlacak Centre at the above address. All applications for jurying must be received by 8:00pm, Friday, November 25th, 2011. Please note that sculpture, woodworking, ceramics and photography are welcome. The application procedure is as follows:
Step One
1. Fill in the attached application form and mail it with a CD containing 10 digital
images (jpeg – 300dpi) of your recent work to the gallery. The application and
CD must be received by the gallery no later than 8:00 pm Friday, November 25, 2011.
2. Images must be numbered and correspond to an accompanying image list (which
indicates number, size, media, title and year of completion).
3. Each submission and support material must be clearly marked with your name.
4. Included with the submission – A $25.00 (non-refundable) jurying fee, a one page
resume outlining your art related experience/education as well as any statement you
wish to make about your artistic direction or motivation and a self-addressed, stamped
return envelope.
You will be notified when your application is received.
Step Two
1. Submit four (4) original works, that are framed and ready to hang. Please note that how your
artwork is framed is also evaluated in the jurying process. All efforts will be made to insure
the safety of the work submitted.
2. Deliver artworks to the Kanata Civic Art Gallery, Saturday January 7th, 10:00am, 2012 at 10:00 am.
3. Pick up artworks from the Kanata Civic Art Gallery, Sunday January 8th, 2012 at
3:00 pm. If you cannot pick up the work yourself, please make arrangements to have someone come in your place to collect the artwork.
4. Applicants will be notified of the jury results by return mail.
The Gallery operates as a co-operative and the hours of operation are staffed on a voluntary basis by the member artists (approximately 3.5 hours per month). Gallery members are responsible for staffing the Gallery a minimum of 10 shifts per year as well as participating in the day to day running of the gallery.
Each gallery member must have a body of work available to exhibit every two months. Approximately six new exhibitions are presented each year. All work shown in the Gallery must be for sale. Artists will be paid within 30 days of a sale with a 15% commission retained by the Gallery. The success of the Gallery depends on the commitment of its members to present high quality and creative artworks for exhibiting to the public.
The Gallery is open Wednesday to Friday from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sundays from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Summer hours are Tues, Wed & Thurs 1-7pm.
The annual fee for membership is $120.00.
Please submit an application (attached) to be juried if you have a body of work and you are willing and able to fulfill the volunteer Gallery requirements.
